Research officer - Selection criteria

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both Lao and English. Ability to accurately and efficiently translate and interpret between Lao and English. Note: Short listed applicants will be tested for interpreting and translating skills.

2. Research and analytical skills. Ability to clearly organize and communicate information – both orally and in writing (including using graphs and charts as appropriate).

3. Knowledge of the Lao political system, economy and bureaucracy. Effective liaison skills.

4. Ability to act independently and as a member of a small team. Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, including under time pressure. Initiative, drive and willingness to develop new skills. Ability to undertake new tasks quickly, be flexible and respond effectively to challenges.

5. Computer literacy particularly in the use of the internet as a research tool, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and an ability to develop new skills in the use of other computer systems. Note: Short listed applicants will be tested for computer-based skills.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be able to work as a locally engaged staff member at a diplomatic mission in Laos, possess a valid passport or be able to obtain a valid passport and be willing to travel within Laos and regionally as required.

All employment at the Australian Embassy is subject to satisfactory medical and security vetting.
