DIAC Duty Statement

AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY VIENTIANE

The Australian Embassy is seeking applications from Lao nationals for the position of an Immigration officer, to work in the Visa and Citizenship Section in Vientiane.

The main duties of the position are:

Undertake a wide range of operational and administrative tasks, including making recommendations in accordance with appropriate legislation, policy and procedures;
Attend to inquiries from clients and provide information and advice;
Prepare routine correspondence;
Provide interpreting and translation services as required;
Act as a Sub-Collector for application fees and undertake counter duties as required;
Operate office equipment and computer systems, including immigration data bases.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

Fluency in both written and spoken English and Lao
Good understanding of working in a legislative and regulatory environment, and the ability to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of the migration legislation, processing requirements, policies and procedures relevant to visa classes;
Ability to work well in a team as well as independently;
Ability to work effectively under pressure, in particular ability to set priorities, meet targets, identify needs and develop procedures;
excellent client service skills
Strong command of computer skills.
